History and Legacy

Soniji Ki Nasiyan was commissioned in 1864 by Rai Bahadur Seth Moolchand Soni, a wealthy Jain merchant from Ajmer. It was completed in 1895 after decades of meticulous craftsmanship. The temple is dedicated to Lord Adinath (Rishabhdev), and the highlight of the complex is the Swarna Nagari (City of Gold), which was added later. This double-storied hall is made of teakwood and overlaid with around 1000 kilograms of gold, making it one of the most unique religious structures in India.

The central attraction of the temple is its golden chamber that illustrates scenes from Jain mythology, especially the five Kalpa (cosmic cycles) and Ayodhya Nagri, associated with Lord Rishabhdev. It reflects the artistic and philosophical richness of Jainism. The temple not only serves as a place of worship but also a hub of learning and heritage preservation for Jain followers. Over the years, it has become a symbol of Ajmer’s inclusive cultural legacy.
