History and Legacy
Pretshila Hill holds a significant place in Hindu mythology and ritual practices. It is believed to be one of the most sacred sites for performing Pind Daan, a ritual done to bring peace to the souls of ancestors. Legend says this is where Gayasura, a demon turned devotee of Lord Vishnu, laid his head. After being blessed by Vishnu, his body turned into the sacred land of Gaya. Pretshila is said to represent the head, making it crucial in the spiritual geography of the region.
The Ramkund tank at the base is believed to be blessed by Lord Rama himself. Pilgrims bathe here before climbing the hill to offer prayers.
