Anand Bhavan in Prayagraj is a historically rich mansion that served as the residence of the Nehru family—one of India’s most prominent political families. This heritage building played a central role during India’s independence movement and is now a well-preserved museum that offers a glimpse into the private lives and political involvement of the Nehrus. Originally built by Motilal Nehru, Anand Bhavan housed important meetings of the Indian National Congress and witnessed the planning of many freedom activities. Inside, visitors can explore the elegant bedrooms, study rooms, furniture, photographs, and even Jawaharlal Nehru’s personal library. There's also a planetarium on the premises that offers shows for astronomy enthusiasts. A visit to Anand Bhavan not only connects you to India’s past but also provides a touching, personal look at the sacrifices and ideologies that shaped the nation.

Anand Bhavan was built in the 1930s by Motilal Nehru after the original family home, Swaraj Bhavan, was donated to the Indian National Congress. The new residence became the Nehru family's home and served as the base for many political discussions and decisions during India’s struggle for independence. Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, spent much of his early life here. The house was a hub for intellectual and nationalistic dialogue, frequented by key freedom fighters and Congress leaders.
In 1970, Indira Gandhi, then Prime Minister and granddaughter of Motilal Nehru, donated Anand Bhavan to the Indian government, converting it into a museum. Today, it retains its vintage charm with original furniture, personal belongings, letters, and rare photographs. Visitors are immersed in the legacy of a family deeply embedded in India's political transformation. The adjoining Jawahar Planetarium, built in 1979, adds a scientific dimension to this historic location.
