History and Legacy
Saheliyon Ki Bari was built by Maharana Sangram Singh in the early 18th century as a gift to his queen. According to legend, the garden was specially designed for the 48 maidens who accompanied the queen as part of her dowry from the king of a neighboring kingdom. These maidens were meant to provide her company and joy, and the garden was envisioned as a private sanctuary for them. The idea was to create a tranquil and beautiful retreat where the royal women could spend their time in leisure, surrounded by nature and far away from courtly drama.
The design of the garden reflects Mughal influences with its geometrical layout, ornamental fountains, and white marble kiosks. Over the years, the garden has become a popular symbol of royal hospitality and feminine grace. It is adorned with elephant-shaped fountains, lotus ponds, marble pavilions, and intricately carved cenotaphs. These structures were built to celebrate not just beauty, but also privacy and peace—luxuries that were reserved for royalty. The gentle sound of water gushing through the fountains, the chirping of birds, and the cool shade of trees make Saheliyon Ki Bari a perfect place to experience the blend of natural beauty and historic elegance. Even today, it continues to charm visitors with its heritage and serenity.
